Iowa City Police Respond to Shooting Near Downtown

On Sunday, August 7, 2022, at 2:24a.m., Iowa City Police responded to the H-Bar, 220 S. Van Buren St. for a report of multiple shots fired. While responding, additional information indicated at least one person was shot outside in the alley.  

Upon arrival, officers located a woman suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Early investigation into the incident determined multiple people were in the alley when the shots were fired. Officers, along with responders from the Iowa City Fire Department and Johnson County Ambulance, provided medical aid and transported the victim to an area hospital for treatment of serious injuries.  

The suspected shooter was last seen fleeing the area in a vehicle. No additional information pertaining to this incident, suspect, or vehicle description, the victim’s identity, or condition of the victim will be released at this time.

This incident is being actively investigated by the Iowa City Police Department and we are asking the public for assistance. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Iowa City Police Department at 319-356-5275. In addition, anyone in that area with security cameras is asked to review their recordings and contact the Iowa City Police Department with any potential footage or information about this incident.
