The National Weather Service in the Quad Cities has issued a

* Severe Thunderstorm Warning for...

  Northwestern Louisa County in southeastern Iowa...

  Southern Cedar County in east central Iowa...

  Southeastern Johnson County in east central Iowa...

  Eastern Washington County in southeastern Iowa...

  Muscatine County in east central Iowa...

 

* Until 615 PM CDT.

 

* At 511 PM CDT, severe thunderstorms were located along a line

  extending from near Riverside to near Noble, moving east at 50 mph.

 

  THESE ARE DESTRUCTIVE STORMS FOR Lone Tree Iowa to Wilton Iowa.

 

  HAZARD...90 mph wind gusts and quarter size hail.

 

  SOURCE...Radar indicated.

 

  IMPACT...You are in a life-threatening situation. Flying debris 

           may be deadly to those caught without shelter. Mobile 

           homes will be heavily damaged or destroyed. Homes and 

           businesses will have substantial roof and window damage. 

           Expect extensive tree damage and power outages.

 

* Locations impacted include...

  Iowa City, Muscatine, Washington, Tipton, West Branch, Columbus

  Junction, Durant, West Liberty, Wilton, Kalona, Lone Tree,

  Riverside, Fruitland, Hills, Ainsworth, Grandview, Conesville,

  Bennett, Columbus City, and Letts.

 

This includes Interstate 80 in Iowa between mile markers 253 and 278.

 

PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS...

 

Remain alert for a possible tornado! Tornadoes can develop quickly

from severe thunderstorms. If you spot a tornado go at once into the

basement or small central room in a sturdy structure.

 

For your protection move to an interior room on the lowest floor of a

sturdy building.

 

A Tornado Watch remains in effect until 800 PM CDT for northwestern

Illinois...and southeastern and east central Iowa.
