Iowa City Police respond to suspicious package

At 6:11 a.m., Friday, Aug. 30, 2024, Iowa City Police responded to a report of a suspicious package in the Capitol Street Parking Ramp, 220 S. Capitol St. The University of Iowa Police Department and members of the Johnson County Metro Bomb Squad also responded to the scene.

At 7:02 a.m., police determined the package was not a threat. The incident remains under investigation and no further information is available at this time.

HAWK ALERT: Police have determined there is no threat to public safety at the Capitol Street Ramp. Resume normal activity.

The Johnson County Metro Bomb Squad is on scene investigating. The ramp will be closed until further notice. Please continue to avoid the area and follow instructions of those on scene.
