Update: Arrests made in downtown Iowa City shooting

As a result of the investigation into the Dec. 5 shooting at the Old Capitol Town Centre Parking Ramp, Darnell F. Martin, Jr., 21, of Coralville; and Mason D. Ward, 18, of Cedar Rapids have been arrested and face the following charges.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing and additional charges are pending. A criminal charge is merely an accusation, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty.

Iowa City Police investigate shooting in downtown parking ramp

At approximately 1:25 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 5, Iowa City police responded to the Old Capitol Parking Ramp, 220 S. Capitol St., for a report of shots fired.

Responding officers found evidence at the scene indicating multiple shots were fired and the preliminary investigation shows several people may have been involved. An adult male was taken to an area hospital with what is believed to be a non-life threatening gunshot wound to the abdomen.

This remains an open and active investigation. No other information is available at this time.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Iowa City Police Department at 319-356-5275. In addition, anyone in that area with security cameras is asked to review their recordings and contact the Iowa City Police Department with any potential footage or information about this incident.
