UI research lab suffers total loss in March 31 storm

James Street Laboratory was unoccupied at the time and no one was injured.

University officials are still assessing campus but so far, there are no reports of injuries and limited reports of damage.

Update: Upon expiration of warnings and exit from shelter, BE SAFE. There may be downed power lines, loose tree branches, and other debris. Be aware of your surroundings and stay weather aware.

HAWK ALERT: The NWS has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for Johnson County until 6:00 PM. Storm includes 70mph winds and hail. Seek shelter.

HAWK ALERT: NWS has issued a tornado warning for NW Johnson County until 5:15 PM. Seek immediate shelter.

Update: Per NWS, there are reports of a tornado on the ground with this system. SEEK SHELTER.

Update: SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. If outside/in a carseek shelter inside a sturdy building immediately. Being in a vehicle during a tornado is not safe. The best course of action is to drive to the closest shelter. If you are unable to make it to a safe shelter, either get down in your car and cover your head or abandon your car and seek shelter in a low-lying area such as a ditch or ravine.

Update: When outdoor warning sirens go off/you receive a Hawk Alert for a tornado warning. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY and REMAIN in the shelter until the warning has expired. Stopping the sirens DOES NOT mean the threat has passed.

Update: SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY. If inside: go to the basement or a safe room and assume a tornado safety position low to the ground. If you don't have either, proceed to the lowest innermost room away from windows. Do not go to large open rooms such as cafeterias, gymnasiums, or auditoriums. Cover your head.

Update: A tornado WARNING has been issued for our area. This means a tornado has been spotted and there is imminent danger. SEEK SHELTER IMMEDIATELY.
