Iowa City Fire Department Update
At 7:15 p.m. on Monday, March 23rd, the Iowa City Fire Department responded to a report of a building fire at 116 South Madison St. (University of Iowa Communications Center). The first unit arrived on scene 4 minutes after notification and reported a large rubbish fire in the first floor of a three-story University building that is in the process on being demolished. Fire crews entered the building and had the fire under control within 26 minutes of arrival.
No civilian or firefighter injuries were reported. The fire was contained to the first floor of the building. No construction equipment or surrounding building sustained any damage. The cause remains under investigation by the Iowa City Fire Marshal.
Outside agency support and assistance was provided by University of Iowa Department of Public Safety, University of Iowa Facility Services, Johnson County Ambulance Service and the Johnson County Joint Communication Center.

UI Department of Public Safety Update
At 7:13 p.m. on Monday, March 23, a University of Iowa police officer discovered and reported a fire at the Communications Center (116 S. Madison St.) while on patrol.
The Iowa City Fire Department responded and brought the fire under control. No injuries have been reported. The building was slated to be demolished and therefore unoccupied.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation. No additional information is available at this time.
HAWK ALERT: Iowa City Fire has cleared the scene of the Communications Center 116 S Madison. Normal traffic can resume.
The Iowa City Fire Department remains on scene working to ensure the fire is contained.
