Notes:

The UI police received a call from Phillips Hall at 10:54 a.m., in response to a male student behaving erratically.

Shortly after, UI police received a second phone call from a staff member in Jessup Hall in response to a male student behaving erratically in the president’s office. The description matched that of the student reported in Phillips Hall and police reported to the scene.

The subject was taken into custody shortly after police arrived, but left a backpack behind in the president’s office (101 Jessup Hall).

In an act of caution, UI police called the Johnson County Bomb Squad to the scene to determine the contents of the backpack. The bomb squad did not find any dangerous materials in the backpack and, for added security, conducted a precautionary sweep of Jessup Hall and Phillips Hall with a K9.

Once the bomb squad completed its work, UI police issued an all-clear message via the Hawk Alert system at 2:29 PM.

UI police transported the subject to the hospital for evaluation.

UI police were assisted by the Iowa City Police Department, Iowa City Fire Department and the Johnson County Emergency Management Agency.
